REMAIN VIGILANT! Please Be Aware of an Increase in Cyberattacks at UC Riverside

UC Riverside is a prime target of attacks from cybercriminals, including but not limited to phishing, ransomware, and job offer scams. Some of these attacks have already claimed victims at UCR this year. The financial, mental, and emotional toll of cyber crime is immense, which is why ITS wants to remind the Highlander community to follow cybersmart practices and remain vigilant when using technology. Apple's release of the Big Sur operating system is imminent, as Apple announced the release will take place within the next 30 days and has planned its next big event for November 10, 2020.

As with all major upgrades, Information Technology Solutions encourages Mac users not to update when prompted, as many systems you use to work and learn at UCR -- including the Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Sophos antivirus software -- will not be compatible with the Big Sur operating system.

We encourage you to wait to update until these third party vendors release compatible versions of their systems. We will update this blog post with information about compatibility as soon as the information is available, so please continue to check this blog post for guidance.
