ITS Reports Steady Progress on The Campus WiFi Assessment Initiative

Information Technology Solutions (ITS) concluded the third month of the Campus WiFi Assessment Initiative on a high note, in collaboration with Residential Technology Analyst Jeff Jumarang of Auxiliary Services.

In March, the ITS network operations and support staff continued their work from the previous month (read the second progress report) and completed the second walkthrough of 23 buildings on campus. The completed walkthroughs allowed the team to determine strategic improvements on campus connectivity, which led to ITS performing minor WiFi adjustments in 17 campus buildings.

More Campus Spaces Analyzed

The ITS network operations and support staff logged some serious steps in March, as they did a first walkthrough of 18 more buildings on campus. This included critical areas such as student housing, which are highly utilized by Highlanders.

ITS partnered with Auxiliary Services’ Residential Technology Analyst, Jeff Jumarang, in covering the Pentland Hills, Aberdeen-Inverness, Glen Mor, and Lothian Residence Halls during spring break. The team walked through every single building in the course of one week to capture a reading of how WiFi performs within the student housing.

In the coming months, ITS will continue to assess the physical spaces on campus where Highlanders teach, learn, and work and identify opportunities for network optimization. Stay tuned for more updates on the Campus WiFi Assessment Initiative!
