ITS proudly recognizes Jason Marshall as the October 2023 Employee of the Month.

Jason was nominated by Rafael Oceguera for the technical expertise and excellent customer service he demonstrated as a Lead Network Engineer. 

Network Administrator Rafael Oceguera lauded Jason’s above and beyond contributions to the ITS Network Engineering & Operations team. He shared:

“Jason has really stepped up in his role as Lead Network Engineer, [especially as he] has been filling the gap for the second Lead Engineer. One standout quality is his ability to communicate effectively with the team, as he [always makes sure] that everyone is on the same page.” 

Jason faces challenges head-on and wisely taps the right people when additional support is necessary. Rafael recounted how Jason’s technical expertise and communication skills benefited the team during critical situations:

“Jason's handling of high [priority] on-call situations is characterized by a combination of technical expertise and effective communication. If he needs additional help, he will go out of his way and open up a Technical Assistance Center (TAC) case with the vendor.”

Another trait commended by Rafael is Jason’s attentiveness, both to his team and the customers that ITS serves. “He is always available if I have a problem and need [his assistance],” Rafael said. “[Furthermore], Jason's attentiveness is evident in his quick response times to customer inquiries or concerns. Whether [he’s] addressing a specific network issue or providing updates on ongoing projects, he ensures that customers feel heard and valued.”

Jason’s commitment to the ITS Network Engineering & Operations team is also evident in his efforts to future-proof the network. Rafael noted the emphasis that Jason puts on scalability:

“Jason has been proactive in future-proofing the network by implementing several strategic initiatives. [The] emphasis [he puts] on scalability [is remarkable]. [He designs] the network architecture in a way that allows for seamless expansion as the [University] grows. [He] is also putting [together] a plan to have a network refresh every few years to keep up with [the University’s needs].”
