ITS proudly recognizes Lead Registrar Systems Analyst James Fox as the June 2026 Employee of the Month. James was nominated by Nan Jiang for consistently providing critical support for UCR’s core academic operations.
As the backbone of student registration and data management at UCR, James is a quiet force whose daily efforts keep essential student-facing processes running smoothly. He consistently resolves more than 50 tasks and support tickets every month, ensuring the continuous stability of student-facing operations.
Nan considered James “an outstanding collaborator and a key resource” for the entire development team. When his business logic expertise is needed, he doesn’t delay in lending support.
One of the projects James was involved in was the Title IX enrollment compliance project. By providing precise logic for applying and removing student holds, he directly enabled the future automation of this process and helped ensure UCR met UCOP's compliance requirements.
According to Nan, he did more than just provide data logic — he proactively offered to manually apply student holds while the automation was still in development. This level of support ensures that development efforts are accurately guided by business rules, are contributing to the progress of ITS’ automation projects, and are compliant on requirements even before a technical solution is fully deployed.
“He is a true partner in development, not just an information provider,” Nan asserted. “His work is the crucial step that transforms compliance requirements into functional, repeatable system operations.”
While James' role is operationally focused, he contributes to future process automation by clearly defining business processes. He meticulously documents and explains the complex business logic for processes (such as the Title IX hold application logic), laying the essential groundwork that allowed the development team to build robust and efficient automated applications. Nan expressed appreciation for James’ exceptional skill and insight:
His deep understanding of the Registrar System's "as-is" state and his ability to translate that into "to-be" automated requirements is a crucial, often-unseen form of technical innovation that dramatically lowers the development cycle time and improves the quality of our automated solutions.
James' entire workload is focused on ensuring customer success, where the "customers" are both our students and the administrative staff who serve them. His steady focus on completing daily operational tasks and addressing concerns related to them ensures that student registration processes are as smooth and error-free as possible. Nan highlighted the value that James delivers to ITS and UCR:
[James’] work directly translates into a positive student experience by ensuring their records are accurate, their holds are managed correctly, and [that] they can progress in their academic journey without interruption. Without his diligence, these critical student-related processes would quickly degrade.
James consistently delivers effective and high-volume results. On an average, he resolves over 50 tasks and tickets per month. These results are not simply 'closed tickets,' but critical resolutions that maintain the integrity of the Registrar System.
James promotes effective change management by being the reliable bridge between policy change and technical execution. Instead of resisting new processes, he immediately engages with new requirements and helps define the steps needed for the system to adapt.
In the case of the Title IX project, James’ willingness to do the work during the transition phase prevented service interruption and ensured that institutional compliance and processes remained intact while the automation change was rolled out.
Truly, James' dedication demonstrates how steady, high-quality execution of core duties is the bedrock of institutional success. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
