UCR's Storage Reclamation Efforts

In keeping with UCR's planned storage reclamation efforts, over-quota alumni and ineligible Google Workspace accounts were recently reset or deactivated, respectively. This process permanently deleted the data associated with these accounts. As a result, ITS is no longer able to offer any data recovery support.

Workaround for Student Registration Issues

UCR is aware of the registration issues that students are experiencing and is working with the vendor to resolve the root issue.  They have identified the defect and are committed to giving us a fix as quickly as they can. Until that time, a potential workaround is to refresh the page using Ctrl+F5 (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) to resolve blank pages or non-functional buttons without clearing the browser's cache and logging out and back in.

Google Workspace Changes

Google recently changed its policies and no longer offers complimentary unlimited storage for Google Workspace, which includes R’Mail, Drive, Calendar, and Photos. This change impacts all Google users, including all institutions of higher education.

To comply with this policy change, UC Riverside must begin implementing storage quotas for Google Workspace by June 1, 2024.

How can I prepare for this change?

Most members of our campus community will not be affected by this change. However, you are encouraged to check your current Google storage usage to ensure your storage usage is within the new quota. You can view the storage use of each file stored in your Google Drive to identify large files that are taking up considerable space to determine which files you may want to store elsewhere (for example, on an external hard drive or alternate cloud storage solution).

Please note that this policy change does not impact other Google services or your account access. To learn more, read this Knowledge Base article.
