ITS Partners with SOM and Enrollment Services to Bring New Zoom Rooms Functionality

As part of the RISE: Generation Zoom initiative, ITS has partnered with the School of Medicine (SOM) and Enrollment Services to integrate modern video conferencing and collaboration technology in their respective meeting rooms and office spaces.

Set to open in August 2023, the School of Medicine’s new Education Building II (SOM Ed II) will feature upgraded problem-based learning (PBL) rooms.

SOM Ed II’s PBL rooms will be equipped with core Zoom Room functions that small groups can utilize when working in the space. This includes wireless content sharing, people-tracking cameras, and digital signage that acts as a standby display when the room is not in a Zoom meeting. PBL rooms will also have their own Zoom identity, which allows people to start meetings using the room’s built-in hardware or join meetings in any Zoom Rooms-enabled space.

The School of Medicine will be one of the first ITS campus partners to utilize the Zoom Workspace Reservation feature. This gives people a live view of available and reserved spaces—displayed on a Zoom Rooms Virtual Receptionist kiosk—and allows them to reserve rooms.

Another project taking place this summer is Enrollment Services’ Zoom Rooms pilot in the Student Services Building. Several teams will participate in the pilot, including staff from AVC Enrollment Services, Undergraduate Admissions, Summer Sessions, The Office of the Registrar, The Office of Financial Aid, Transfer Credit and Articulation Services, and the Financial and Administrative Solutions Team (FAST).

The third floor of the Student Services Building will be turned into reservable office spaces and two of the conference rooms will have Zoom Rooms functionality. As with the School of Medicine, the pilot will also utilize the Workspace Reservation feature so anyone working onsite can easily secure a workstation. Digital signage will be available in the office entrance as well.

Through the RISE: Generation Zoom effort, ITS continues to upgrade campus spaces with advanced Zoom Rooms technology to meet the demand for flexible working and learning environments.
