September 2023 Employee of the Month: Britney D’Amato

ITS proudly recognizes Britney D’Amato as the September 2023 Employee of the Month.

Britney was nominated by Sandy Muse and Edwin Melgar for the proactiveness and commitment she demonstrated when she stepped into the Project Manager role for Information Security’s Vulnerability Project.

The Vulnerability Response Module implementation for ServiceNow streamlined the process of remediating identified system vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities are now grouped and assigned either to the Managed Desktop or Systems team for remediation, and they’re automatically updated based on regular scans of system vulnerabilities. This integration reduced the manual effort of running reports and creating ServiceNow tickets to track remediation efforts.

The Information Security Operations team, the Managed Desktop team, and the Systems team all directly benefited from this effort. ITS campus partners also benefit from the Vulnerability Project as it yielded more accurate tracking, faster response, and more efficient prioritization of system vulnerabilities.

Britney, an Information Security Analyst, stepped in to fill the role of Project Manager when the Vulnerability Project was left without an active project manager for an extended period of time. She helped move the project forward while maintaining her own workload.

Part of Britney’s responsibility as Project Manager was to make sure the Vulnerability application worked correctly across all areas. When something didn’t function as it should, she promptly took action. Britney worked with the vendor to find a solution and kept at it until all application issues were resolved. Her thoroughness ensured that UCR was getting the most out of the Vulnerability application. IT Business Analyst Sandy Muse shared:

“Britney is very good at analyzing the application and what it is supposed to be used for. She tested the application [for ISO and also] the Systems and Managed Desktop teams. She made every effort [to ensure] that the vendor fixed issues as they came up. If it was asked for and the vendor didn't deliver, she [followed up]. She didn't let anything get past the vendor and made every effort to ensure [that] UCR was getting the best out of the application.”

Edwin Melgar, a Manager from the Portfolio Management Office, commended Britney’s efforts as Project Manager:

“Britney kept a positive attitude, kept the project team informed, and effectively communicated with the vendor. She exemplified great teamwork and collaboration by filling the Project Manager’s responsibilities during [a] time [when] a dedicated project manager was not available to fill the role.”

Edwin also praised Britney’s keen eye for detail and the way she collaborated with project stakeholders:

“Britney is very detailed and organized. These qualities contributed to the project's success, [especially] in the configuration and testing phases. She was deliberate in including and consulting with the project stakeholders to make sure all information and perspectives were considered. This [approach] will lead to greater user adoption of the process.”

Thank you, Britney, for your commitment to the Vulnerability Project's success. ITS values your contributions highly. Congratulations on this well-earned achievement!
