November 2023 Employee of the Month: Joe Trietsch

ITS proudly recognizes Joe Trietsch as the November 2023 Employee of the Month.

Joe was nominated by Adelaida Diaz, Rehan Tahir, Patrick Wagman, Kathleen Rondeau-Taylor, and Edwin Melgar for his exceptional leadership as Project Manager and his strong commitment to improving ITS’ working relationship with Auxiliary Services.

The Student Health Services VCSANet domain and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) migration required extensive effort to complete. As Project Manager, Joe’s excellent communication and collaboration skills were essential to the project’s success. He engaged vendors and ensured that meetings were streamlined and productive. Additionally, Joe provided supplemental support to the team by managing project add-ons.

Rehan Tahir, Associate Director of the Portfolio Management Office, elaborated on Joe’s contributions:

“Joe’s contribution to the Student Health ADS and GCP migration project has been nothing short of exceptional. He [planned] diligently with the team to ensure the smooth and efficient execution of this project. Joe's ability to foresee potential roadblocks and devise proactive solutions has been instrumental in mitigating potential issues, keeping the project on track, and delivering positive outcomes.

His dedication to the successful completion of this migration has improved the efficiency of our health services and enhanced the overall experience for our customers.”

Joe’s composure and lighthearted sense of humor encouraged the team despite the difficult situations they faced during the migration. Patrick Wagman, Associate Director of the Portfolio Management Office, described how Joe’s positive attitude made a difference:

“One of Joe's most remarkable qualities is his calm and collected demeanor. Even in high-pressure situations, he maintains a positive outlook and a cool head. This allows him to effectively communicate and resolve conflicts using a lighthearted and humorous approach. Joe's interpersonal skills foster a harmonious work environment where team members feel motivated to give their best. Despite the complexity of several projects, Joe maintains a positive attitude and is a joy to work with.”

Joe was also entrusted with managing the relationship between ITS and Auxiliary Services. He actively worked with Auxiliary Services’ leadership team by providing project updates, helping them identify priorities, and serving as an escalation point for issues they encountered with ITS services. Patrick underscored Joe’s commitment to customer success:

“He goes above and beyond to ensure that projects and customer support are handled with the [utmost] level of professionalism and dedication. His ability to work with different teams and units exemplifies his commitment to the holistic success of our organization.

Joe is always willing to help out, even if it means going [beyond] his job description. He is a team player who is always willing to lend a hand. He is also a great communicator who is able to build relationships with people from all walks of life. Joe is a valuable asset to our team and we are lucky to have him.”

Joe is adept in managing multiple projects, as evident in his involvement with the Degree Works upgrade, the Zoom Phone Services migration, and the Student Information Systems Banner upgrade.

Sheri Morgan, Associate Director of Network Engineering & Operations, expressed her gratitude for Joe’s support in the campus rollout of Zoom Phone Services:

“I'm [appreciative of] Joe’s support in rolling out Zoom Phone. We faced a number of challenges [in] coordinating a large number of users [and] extensions and competing priorities. In addition, we had a tight deadline, as two new buildings were coming online, and needed to have Zoom Phone up and running prior to their move-in date.

Joe was instrumental in helping us overcome these challenges. [He] was always available to jump on a call and provide suggestions, guidance, and help with the facilitation [and] coordination of the rollout. Joe was a pleasure to work with and [he’s] a valuable addition to the Zoom Phone project team.”

Thank you, Joe, for your unwavering commitment to achieving project goals and improving ITS’ relationship with campus partners. ITS values your contributions highly. Congratulations on this well-earned achievement!
