Composed of skilled members with diverse expertise, the Student Health Services ADS and GCP Migration Team successfully orchestrated the migration from the VCSA Net domain to the ADS domain. It transitioned all applications from the RC3 data center to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Their crucial work not only marked a significant milestone for ITS, but also set a precedent for future technology initiatives within the University.
The team faced the formidable task of rebuilding all servers and services in GCP and migrating from VCSA NET to ADS, which required all users, their devices, and data to be migrated as well. Notably, the entire process had to be completed within a tight timeframe to ensure the seamless operation of Student Health Services once their new building opened.
The migration project was not without its challenges. The team encountered missing or incomplete documentation, vendors unfamiliar with GCP, and insufficient communication between UCR and some vendors. Despite these hurdles, the team showcased exceptional problem-solving skills and expertise to overcome each obstacle.
The project marked a historic moment as it was the first time the GCP platform was used to replace an entire department's locally hosted systems comprehensively. The team's pioneering efforts demonstrated ITS and UCR’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of technology.
In an effort to ensure compliance with the latest network and environment specifications for HIPAA-compliant systems, the team meticulously reconstructed the environment to guarantee complete data security and privacy. This commitment reflects their dedication to maintaining the highest standards in healthcare data management.
The team navigated the challenges of establishing communication with various vendor application providers, many of which had undergone mergers or acquisitions. The team's lack of vendor experience with GCP further highlighted its resourcefulness in discovering, reverse-engineering, and migrating complex systems.
The team's exceptional achievements did not go unnoticed, as evident from the multiple nominations they received from Joseph Parent, Kathleen Rondeau-Taylor, Patrick Wagman, Joe Trietsch, and Rehan Tahir. Each nomination underscores the team's dedication, problem-solving skills, and resilience in delivering a best-in-class solution for Student Health Systems.
The Student Health Services ADS and GCP Migration Team's remarkable success in navigating a complex migration process showcases their commitment to excellence, teamwork, and technological innovation. Their pioneering efforts have benefited the campus community and positioned UCR as a leader in leveraging cutting-edge technologies for the betterment of healthcare services.
Thank you, Student Health Services ADS and GCP Migration Team, for your diligent work in ensuring the success of this project. ITS greatly values each of your contributions!
Be sure to submit your nomination for the next Team of the Quarter!
