Resources Available for Students in Need of Technology for Remote Learning

UCR Information Technology Solutions (ITS) is pleased to announce that it has enhanced and made permanent the Loan2Learn (L2L) Program for students in need of off-campus access to a learning device. ITS is currently accepting applications for the 2020 Fall quarter.

At the onset of campus closure ITS launched the Loan2Learn program to support students who relied on on-campus resources—such as laptop kiosks, computer labs, and libraries—to perform their academic work. Any student who did not have off-campus access to internet or a device that supports remote teaching and learning was encouraged to apply to the L2L program.

As it remains unclear when it will be safe for students and faculty to return to campus, ITS has secured CARES Act funding to make the program permanent and ensure equitable technology access for all students. The program inventory has been updated to include devices that support proctoring, placement exam, Zoom, and YuJa needs, in addition to basic academic needs. Hotspot devices are still available for students with no access to internet. Additionally, the program application process has been enhanced to provide continued support of the program and streamlined customer service.

Once approved, devices are loaned out to students on a quarterly basis. Students who apply for a device for Fall quarter must return the device the week following finals week. If needed, the student may request an extension to loan the device for an additional quarter.

More information about the program, including eligibility requirements, can be found at https://its.ucr.edu/loan2learn.

Those who believe they are eligible for the program can complete the new L2L Program Application Form. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as device availability is limited.
