At the onset of campus closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ITS launched the Loan2Learn (L2L) program to support students who relied on on-campus resources—such as laptop kiosks, computer labs, and libraries—to perform their academic work. Upon securing CARES Act funding in Fall, ITS was able to make the program permanent to help ensure equitable technology access for all UCR students.
ITS is pleased to report that the L2L program continues to grow and help students overcome financial barriers that would otherwise inhibit their access to required remote learning technology. ITS has increased program inventory of laptops and internet hotspots by 11%, and almost all devices have been loaned out to those in need. This means that ITS has been able to successfully uphold the University’s commitment to social mobility and equitable access to higher education.
As fall quarter comes to a close, we’d like to remind those who have loaned devices from ITS to return them so that student applicants have access to the devices they need to conduct their winter quarter studies. Devices are loaned out on a quarterly basis and must be returned the week following Finals week. Students may request an application extension if they need the device to complete courses in the following quarter. ITS is currently accepting applications for the 2021 winter quarter (apply here).
Please note that requests are processed on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis. We encourage students to fill out the application as soon as possible, and to regularly check their email for updates on their application. If ITS is unable to coordinate device pickup due to a lack of response, ITS must offer the device to the next user on the list and cannot guarantee continued inventory.
